Wand
Los Angeles, CA

Read bio
In late 2013ish Los Angeles California, Wand formed up and got right on it, playing, writing & plotting a path forward – a not-undifficult task for a special new band come to life in the twenty-teens and audaciously self-identifying as “Wand”. The original group – Cory Hanson (guitar, vocals), Lee Landey (bass), Evan Burrows (drums) and Daniel Martens (guitar) - recorded Ganglion Reef before too long and attracted the attentions of GOD? Records, In the Red and Drag City all at once. A deal was dreamed up and hammered down: first album with GOD?, second with In the Red, and then Drag City. What would the result of THAT be?
So began the years of furious activity; near-constant days of touring and recording and releasing. Between August 2014 and September 2017, Wand released Ganglion Reef, Golem, 1000 Days and Plum, a period in which they also reduced from quartet to trio (less Daniel) and then expanded to quintet (with the addition of Robbie Cody (guitar) and Sofia Arreguin (keys, vocals, percussion)). All this action had launched them onto the world-wide stage, which suggested increasingly more to do all the time. No prob: everyone was playing in other bands, and Cory started a solo career too. No time like the present! A maxi-EP, “Perfume”, appeared in the Spring of 2018 and the double-album Laughing Matter dropped in April 2019. Touring continued apace; it was only the CoCo craze of the following year that that forced any downtime – and even that gap was filled with the mixing of an epic live document, the 2xLP Spiders In the Rain, dropped in the pan in 2022. All this while Evan focused on his long-time other band, Behavior, plus Pink Trash Can, and Robby joined in on both endeavors, while Sofia played with Shannon Lay and Kamikaze Palm Tree, and Cory wrote and recorded two more solo albums!
When the smoke cleared on all the pandammit action, Lee and Sofia had decided it was time to get on beyond Wand, something the other three were still dedicated to doing while remaining in the band. Ayund… clock on the wall said it was time for another album, as it was suddenly a few years since Laughing Matter. That’s when Vertigo set in. Robbie began to record the new stuff at his place. The new Wand directive: recording only, no writing. That would come later. Surely the next great Wand album was somewhere at this end of this rainbow? Yep – by late 2023, all of it had boiled down to album-size, and Vertigo was soon slated for release on July 26, 2024. In the process, Wand had grown an extra hand – or more accurately, become a quartet again, with the addition of Evan Backer (known as Evan Too, for those keeping track). And what ho, more dates had been scheduled and played, and more scheduled. For the earth is round and we must continue in orbit. For Wand, this means North America in the summer and Europe in the fall, with Mars TBA. What next, man? -
L.A. Witch
Los Angeles, CA
white+instagram white+facebook white+spotify white+youtube
Read bio
L.A. Witch have always exuded an aura of effortless cool, whether it manifested as the Americana noir and laconic back-to-basics rock n’ roll of their self-titled debut or the blistering austere adventurism of their sophomore album Play With Fire. The band—comprised of Sade Sanchez (guitar/vocals), Irita Pai (bass), and Ellie English (drums)—began as an informal affair, but the sultry and beguiling reverb-draped songs they created caught on with the public. On their latest album, DOGGOD, the trio push their craft beyond their previous creative and geographical confines, opting to craft the material in Paris, recording the tracks at Motorbass Studio on the Rue de Martyrs. DOGGOD explores broader swaths of sonic terrain, employs a greater arsenal of tones, and probes larger existential and cosmic themes, all while retaining the band’s signature sense of the forbidden, the forsaken, and the foreboding.

Dealing in fast, streamlined punk rock with ringing guitars, simple but effective melodic hooks, and a double dose of energy, Radioactivity were formed in 2013 by Jeff Burke and Mark Ryan, who had previously worked together in the well-respected garage punk band the Marked Men. Radioactivity began as a spinoff of the Novice, a band Burke worked with from 2010 to 2012 while he was living in Japan. When Burke returned to the United States and settled in Denton, Texas, he didn't want to let the songs he wrote for the Novice go to waste, so he reworked them and assembled a new band as a platform for the material. With Burke on guitar and vocals, Ryan on bass and vocals, Daniel Fried on guitar, and Gregory Rutherford on drums, Burke named the new band Radioactivity, and they cut a self-titled debut for Dirtnap Records that was released in October 2013. The group supported the album with live work, though they emphasized that they wanted to be known as a good band rather than a good local band, and aimed for quality over quantity when booking shows. Radioactivity's second album, Silent Kill, was released by Dirtnap on June 30, 2015. Bassist Orville Neeley replaced Ryan in 2016.

Kontravoid’s masked mystique has remained for over a decade. Ever since the release of his self-titled LP in 2012, the Canadian-born, LA-based Cameron Findlay has perfected dark pop with a unique composition which moves eloquently through the EBM, electro and goth genres. His past releases, such as 2019’s “Too Deep” and 2021’s “Faceless,” have no trouble reaching the most derelict corners of foggy, strobe-lit clubs, leaving listeners with no choice but to dance. With an uncanny softness and unmistakable songwriting ability, Kontravoid composes heart-wrenching songs that are both captivating and drenched in melancholy – showcased on 2018’s “Undone”, which has been lauded as a fan favorite since its release.

Since its creation in 2023, DVTR has definitely been shaking up the Canadian punk scene, racking up dazzling reviews, best of lists, soldout shows and some bootlicking awards for their first ever EP “BONJOUR” (Hello!). Somewhere between the B-52’s and Jay Reatard, the troublemaking French-speaking duo and its unpredictable antics breaks all language barriers, on stages worldwide, from Mexico to Japan. This is fast music: short and not sweet at all: it repeats, it repeats, it repeats – that’s the only way to get the message across. Not for the faint of heart.
"This duo is f*cking mental." ― Louderthanwar (UK)
“DVTR are on the rise: F*ck-about-and-find-out Québécois punks are channelling free-spirited outsiderism.” — The Line of Best Fit (UK)
“DVTR are their own masters. The lesson is obvious: expect the unexpected.” — God Is In The TV (UK)
“Pure punk rock carnage.” — RANGE Magazine (CA)
"This is a live band doing what great live bands do, live: entertaining, f*cking with people’s heads, having fun, and showing what they’ve got – crazy licks – without showing off.” – Cult Magazine (CA)

A confrontational, camp and seductive dramaturge. Slash Need have earned a reputation for putting on high-energy theatrical live performances. For Toronto's industrial performance art outfit Slash Need, they’ve become a conduit for a collective and defiant form of liberation. The duo craft songs that slither, satirize, and scream. Sonically aligned with artists like Boy Harsher, Ministry, and Skinny Puppy, their live show traces an urgency familiar to anyone who’s ever felt combustible in their rage against systems of power. Served up raw, Slash Need’s distinct style of propulsive techno and metallic darkwave serves as the backdrop to a unpredictable, ever-changing, and communal performance piece
Following a viral bout of unplanned, and gratifying, attention from right wing media in 2023 after their lore-making performance at Toronto Pride, the group has developed a cult following. (A widely-circulated video earned 2.3 million views with one comment calling the group ”nasty, filthy perverts”.) Conjuring the essence of cherry red lipstick smudged on the rim of a spilled energy drink, baby powder masquerading as Chanel perfume; pheromones, smoke machines, and crossed wires, Toronto’s Slash Need is an invitation: demanding that we blur the line between repulsion and desire, to arrive at a fierce reclamation of personal autonomy.

Arts Major is a child of the pandemic and an old man of old men. Once ago we wrote about being in our 30's, and that was after writing songs about our 20's, but time marches forward and now it's 40's - how about you? Ani Difranco once said, “People used to make records, as in the record of an event, the event of people playing music in a room. Now everything is cross marketing. It's about sunglasses and shoes, or guns and drugs. You choose.” People playing music in a room, this is what resonates so clearly now some 25 years after Ani sang those words in a room. As seasoned players, friends, colleagues, comrades, activists, and allies, we see our place in the musical landscape as not a vector for fame or recognition, but much more simply, as a way to gather together in temporary community formations on a landscape that bears the sorrow of the displaced and murdered.

READ BIO
Though inspired by the shocking iconography of horror shows, slasher flicks, and psychological thrillers, Bonnie Trash (led by twin sisters Emmalia and Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor) turns cinematic tropes on their head. Rather than fashioning nightmares into reality, the band paints reality as a nightmare, rife with pain, suffering, and gothic theatre. Like their forebears Joy Division, Black Sabbath, or John Carpenter, Bonnie Trash understands that everyday atrocities haunt the periphery of our lives. A black cloud looming on the edge of our vision. Curses abound. You can’t ward them off. You’d best make an unholy racket.
Where their first full length, Malocchio, shrouded Bonnie Trash’s nightmares in dusky dreamlike reverb, Mourning You is vivid and immediate. Mourning You is less a post-mortem fantasia than a sudden, swift dagger to the heart. This is sorrow not as a lingering bruise, but a gushing wound. -

READ BIO
Dual Nature formed in 2015 as a project of necessity for five long-time friends. After messing about in garage rock territory for several years and releasing an EP with Double Lunch Records, the Edmonton-based band began incorporating post-punk influences into their sound. This experimentation culminated in their first full-length, The End of History, in April 2022.
The group’s 2025 EP, Content, retains the sorrowful, doomsday atmosphere traversed on The End of History, while drawing further inspiration from the ceaseless sonic brutality of noise rock acts such as The Jesus Lizard and Metz. Communicated via pummeling drums, piercing guitars, gritty, muscular bass, and manic, snarling vocals, the result is a violently cathartic synthesis of despair and rage.

EarthBall are a wild ensemble from Canada, mainly based on Vancouver Island. Their inception was serendipitous, emerging out of necessity when Isabel Ford, John Brennan, and Jeremy Van Wyck needed a name for a gig. What began as a pragmatic solution blossomed into an artistically conceived project. Embracing complete improvisation, free expression and a truly psychedelic sound, the group's lineup expands for different projects and now features Kellen Maclaughlin on Guitar and Liam Murphy on Saxophone. Each member brings a diverse musical background, having been part of various bands such as Shearing Pinx, Kamikaze Nurse, Eschatons and Psychedelic Dirt.
From their first cassette Fruiting Bodies (2021) to It’s Yours (Upset The Rhythm, 2024)—hailed by The Quietus and The Wire—they have steadily pushed the limits of free-form sound. Their 2024 UK tour with Chris Corsano, culminating in a Café OTO residency, solidified their reputation for volatile, ecstatic performances.
Now, Actual Earth Music - Volume 1 & 2 (March 7, 2025) captures their raw, uninhibited energy live. Side A features Earth Ball live at The Fox Cabaret in Vancouver, supporting Wolf Eyes on August 4, 2023 and Volume 2 occupies Side B of this LP, showcasing a collaborative summit from the second night of their recent Café OTO residency on May 21, 2024. This recording features a collaboration with pivotal UK improv luminary Steve Beresford on piano and free-jazz phenomenon Chris Corsano on drums.
Earth Ball’s performances are more than concerts—they are sonic events, ephemeral and unrepeatable, shaping chaos into something urgent and unforgettable. -

Franklin is the melodic, doomy, tension-building riff-machine your nightmares have been waiting for. Hailing from the isolated north in Whitehorse YT, this two-piece metal-menace born in the bleak heart of a world pandemic features Kirsty Wells (Whitehorse YT) and Evan Joel (Vancouver BC). While Kirsty screams melodically harsh vocals and slams the fuzz and distortion-fuelled bass, Evan’s raspy support vocals and drums hit hard enough to make knuckles and ears bleed.
Since 2022, Franklin has gained a strong following in their local metal scene, booked gigs in other cities and played festivals. In the summer of 2024, they recorded a full-length album alongside Jesse Gander of Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, and Gregory McLaughlin in Whitehorse. Franklin has released their first single and accompanying music video; a live-off-the-floor videos series and their first full-length album on vinyl are soon to follow.

Fulfilment
Calgary, AB
READ BIO
Kevin Stebner has found a way to almost create his own genre of music, a style of Post-Hardcore those in the know refer to as "Stebnerian" - After 15 years in some of Calgary's most notable Post-Hardcore projects (Stalwart Sons, Prepared) as well as forays into Psychy-Alt-Country (Cold Water) and even chiptune (GreyScreen), Stebner (guitars/vox) has once again taken up the speed and anger of previous bands, this time delving a little deeper into power pop territory and post-punk leanings, and with a little more wry humour. With the help of David Tkach on Bass (Big Knife Little Knife, Giant Sons) and Steven Duggins on Drums (UK’s Tupolev Ghost, Fuzzy Lights), Fulfilment are that power trio you need in your life.
2025 will see the release of Fulfilment's second LP "Husky House" (recorded in the summer of 2024 with Lorrie Matheson) 10 more songs of blistering energy of guys old enough to have seen it all, but still pissed enough to not allow the cynicism to take over. -

Their sound confronts mental health, alienation, and spiritual survival with a voice that’s both sacred and scorched. After surviving a tumultuous upbringing as a Jehovah’s Witness and experiencing homelessness as a teen, they earned a scholarship to NYU and moved to New York. There, immersed in the Brooklyn noise and rave scene, they created Jehovah’s Princess—not just as a musical project, but as a sanctuary for the exiled and outcast. Their music is pure catharsis: screamed prayers, glitchy breakdowns, and razor-edged truths delivered with unapologetic intensity. Rooted in DIY ethos and divine rage, Jehovah’s Princess doesn’t aim to please—they aim to provoke, to purge, and to survive. They’re not just breaking genre—they’re breaking silence.

Second signature move... Then threw a water bottle in the crowd in hoped crowd participation moment. bonking someone who was not looking. Cue full beer can exploding on his chest hurled from neighboring bottle victim. The show went on. Minutes later he broke a 3rd mic. Almost insult to injury he then Fell on his ass with all the mic cords.. It was like being on an episode of punk'd.
